Music

drum lessonAn appreciation and love of music is one of the best gifts we can pass on to our students. Music touches a part of our soul that cannot be reached in any other way and allows us to express great joy.

Years 7 and 8 have two music lessons a week for the whole year and Years 9-12 have two lessons a week of music for their fourth term as part of the Creative Art program. The lessons are very practical and group orientated. We do rhythm activities using drums, xylophones, glockenspiels, keyboards and percussion instruments. Singing solo using the microphone or singing songs as a group is encouraged.

Students are exposed to the diversity of sound and experiences of different music genres. Students are encouraged to share  their favourite music with the class by performing in front of their peers.

Yearly Musical

Eddie's High School Musical

The highlight of our musical experience is the yearly musical we put on together with a number of Year 10 Abbotsleigh students. The Abbotsleigh girls dedicate a week to our musical and our students. The music teacher at St Edmund's chooses the theme of the musical and selects about 10 songs to which the students will dance and sing.

Our students, who have elected to take part in the musical spend every morning for a week in November practising with the Abbotsleigh girls and staff from both schools. The Abottsleigh girls are in charge of lighting, sound, props, decorations, programs, narration between each song and some of the choreography which altogether creates a wonderful musical. The production is performed on the Friday evening for family and friends in the fabulous Abbotsleigh School auditorium. A wonderful evening is had by all.
