Visiting Teacher Program - Vision

St Edmund's School operates the Visiting Teacher Program - Vision on behalf of the Broken Bay Diocese Catholic School's Office. This service supports students who are blind or have vision impairment in Diocesan schools by working in partnership with the students, their parents and the teachers. The program seeks to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills to make curriculum adjustments needed to support the learning of the students. The program supports students from Kindergarten to Year 12.    

The service provides:

  • Professional development for staff
  • Programs for areas of need in the expanded core curriculum such as computer and assistive technology, use of low vision aids, organisational skills, leisure skills and self advocacy
  • Large print texts
  • Training and support for school staff in the production of large print worksheets and class handouts
  • Consultation and support in the selection of assistive technology
  • Braille instruction for students and teachers
  • Mobility skill development, including joint programs with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.
