The Family Engagement Officer role works closely with students and their families and support teams, as well as the College Principal, Allied Health, Wellbeing, and Teaching teams, to meet the broad service and support needs of families both while our students are at school, as well as planning for their transition to post-school life. This role takes a Capacity Building approach: working with families both one-on-one and in groups, to educate our community about available information, services and supports (such as the NDIS and Mainstream supports) so that they can feel more confident, informed and empowered to self-advocate within an often complex service system.
Our Speech Pathologists work closely with teaching and support staff to support the communication and learning of our students. Speech Pathology intervention may support students who have difficulty expressing their needs thoughts or feelings, listening and understanding, literacy, social communication and difficulties eating or drinking safely.
* The St Edmund’s Student Support Team does not replace the need for your external therapy team. Parents/caregivers and your therapists are welcome to contact our student support team any time. Many families also find it beneficial to include their therapy team in Personalised Planning meetings to ensure consistency of support across home, school and the community.
Our Occupational Therapists support students to thrive both in, and beyond the classroom. We help our students build the skills they need for learning, wellbeing, and independence. Our Occupational Therapists support throughout the college in areas of self-management, sensory and emotional regulation, handwriting and fine motor skills, routines, and self-care. By working alongside teachers, families, and student support, we empower students to engage fully in their education and prepare for life post-school.
Our school counsellor works in collaboration with students, teachers, families, external services and the Head of Wellbeing to support the ongoing social, emotional and mental health aspects of student achievement and learning.
The school counsellor aims to promote wellbeing, resilience and inclusion to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student belongs and is supported to feel heard, valued and empowered to thrive.
In addition, the school counsellor also assists in facilitating programs that strengthen social skills, emotional regulation, resilience and community safety.
Specialist Teachers support students with sensory (hearing and vision) loss, providing essential assistance throughout the school environment. They promote inclusion to ensure fair opportunities for learning and participation across all educational settings.
Our Specialist Teachers work closely with staff to strengthen their capacity to adjust teaching strategies and deliver targeted, student-centred interventions.
They also play a crucial role in supporting student wellbeing, promoting safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where students feel valued and socially connected. By addressing both learning and wellbeing needs, they empower students to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
